So what happened...

Finally, episode 2 is here. To give you a perspective on the difficulty of this episode; we started filming in late September, and here it is December. We wanted the episode to be posted online by Halloween at the latest, but it ended up taking us 6 weeks longer than our original intentions. The shooting process was tricky with a kid, although little Sara was a trooper.

We had to shoot around her school schedule, which made the 3-day shooting schedule turn into 5 or 6 (honestly I can't remember, it's pretty much a blur now). We also had a lot of family issues that arose in those weeks, especially in October. By the time November came around the editing wasn't very far in, and we had to deal with the holidays. Now I know it sounds as if I'm making a bunch of excuses for the delay, but really it all falls on me. I guess if you or the cast and crew want to blame anyone for the technical issues of this episode and the time issues as well, put it on the director. I'm cool with it.

I'm hoping you've already seen the episode, so you're reading this afterwards. If not, go watch the episode, and then come back, because I'm going to get a little spoilery here.

The parodies in this episode -- if you didn't catch them -- are from Gremlins and 24. It's mainly a parody of Gremlins, and then 24 visually in graphics/title cards/etc. To be perfectly honest, we went with the 24 stuff because when we got around to editing we noticed the episode was way too choppy in places. Using the 24 style helped us a great deal. To me -- from a completely honest standpoint -- the episode is still a bit choppy in spots, but we work with what we've got. Again, I'm not going to make excuses, because at the end of the day I'm satisfied with the outcome of the show.

As for the 3rd episode, it's still rolling along and the pace at which we're getting this one done is a lot faster than the second episode. We're HOPING (I'm never making a straight-ahead deadline again) that it gets online by Christmas. As of this typing, we have 2 more scenes to shoot and we're more than likely going to start editing sometime next week. The feel of the third one is less production-based. It's not a crazy editing job, considering (without giving too much away) that it's for the most part all in one room. I'll have more on that when I get it.

I have to say thanks to everyone out there who loved the first episode and patiently waited for the second. I know it took a long time for a 9 minute web episode, but it's here and I'm hoping you enjoy it. We put a lot of time and effort into it and we're proud of the outcome. Come on back to watch episode 3. It should be a humdinger.

As with every post-episode blog I write from here on out, I have to mention the folks who busted their asses to get this thing up. First and foremost, show creators Eric Hendrix and Laura Gordon. Jon Riggins (who co-wrote the episode and lends his voice to the "following" title cards), Sara Hendrix (the biggest little horror fan I know), Jennifer Hendrix (for doing that annoying voice that we keep making her do), Chad Dobbs (who holds a camera steadier than my shaky ass ever could), Michael McCall, and everybody else. I know this episode was a bear, but we got through it.

Until next time, folks.
